Cloud Services

We pride ourselves on providing a stand-out service.

Cloud Computing is a way of delivering IT services to users without the need to buy, install or manage any infrastructure. Access your desktops, applications and services over the internet from wherever you are. Get flexible, pay-as-you-use IT that suits your business.

The popularity of Cloud Computing has soared over the past few years and it has fast become an integral part of business IT systems across all sectors, from SOHO to enterprises. The SOHO market is benefitting from utilising enterprise class systems and reliability without the large capital expenditure required to buy and maintain them in-house. The SME sector is utilising Cloud Computing to extend their infrastructure easily, quickly and cost-effectively. With BYOD (bring-your-own-device), it’s enabling staff to be more productive by allowing them to work anywhere and from any device – safely and efficiently. And finally, enterprise businesses are seeing a drastic cost-saving in IT maintenance and overhead by either implementing their own private Cloud, or using the public Cloud. Both options are enabling a minimal overhead IT system with greatly reduced downtime and company wide outages.

We have several Cloud services available to suit all businesses and varying usages.

VDI / Desktop as a Service

Hosted Virtual Desktops or Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) is a Windows 7 themed machine delivered from the Cloud. With Liit VDIs you are free to install and use as you normally would your own Windows 7 desktop. It gives you the freedom to add performance and resources without having to upgrade any hardware.

How do they work?

We are all familiar with desktop or laptop PCs - you probably use one every day. It’s the machine you use to carry out your work, which connects you to the network and server. A Cloud desktop has exactly the same functionality, but it’s hosted on the internet – ‘in the Cloud’.

VDIs allow you to have unlimited access to a virtual Windows 7 themed machine, which run on our powerful servers 24/7. You can quickly connect from multiple devices and locations to your fully functional Windows desktop. The technology we use enables you to print and use USB devices attached to your local machine. All of your data is stored securely at our datacentres and the connection is fully encrypted, ensuring your data is never compromised.

There are multiple options available allowing you to share data seamlessly with other members of the organisation, such as shared storage and application servers.

Built-in disaster recovery and compliance

Without VDI, if your laptop were stolen, all of your local data, programs, settings, favourites, etc., would be lost with it. You may have a back-up, but the important data would be compromised and could easily fall into the wrong hands.

With a VDI, the device you use to access won’t hold any of that important data, or have your programs installed, making it a secure and simple solution in the event of a theft or disaster.

Cloud Backup

Liit’s secure online data backup is the most convenient and cost effective way of ensuring your valuable data is backed up every day. Stored in multiple locations, Liit’s Cloud backup uses the internet and BitBackup technology, making it easier and affordable for our customers.

How does it work and what are the benefits?

  • • All files are protected by state-of-the art encryption. Only you can retrieve your files.
  • • Completely automated off-site protection (set and forget – no regular human intervention required).
  • • Fast online recovery of any version of any protected file.
  • • Easy installation and setup.
  • • Only an internet connection is required, eliminating the need for expensive equipment and media.
  • • The backup server is monitored by technicians whose only job is to make sure the backups are performed properly.

Liit Cloud backup operates an off-site storage facility for your data. An account is maintained for each business. Each account is protected by a password known only to the user, ensuring only you have access to your data.

The electronic vault system is set up so that at a pre-set time, (usually late at night) your computer automatically prepares its data for backup. It determines which files have been modified since the last backup, compresses them, and encrypts them for security. When the data is ready, the computer uses its internet connection to contact our backup server and transmit the data. Our backup server verifies and stores the data. You can rest assured that your data is safe for you to restore at any time.

What can you backup?

Business Case Study

The consulting company, Newell & Associates, had a disk drive crash six months after it began operations. And, even with a fully backed up system on a tape drive, it took over five days to get a critical computer system restored. They spent several months investigating all the alternatives to manual backup systems. Finally they decided that the best backup system is the one used by most major companies like IBM, GE, and Amoco.

Most FTSE companies use the same basic techniques to protect their data:

  • • All their systems are completely automated.
  • • The data is copied to a central location.
  • • Data is then distributed across multiple sites.

Private cloud

Liit have a state-of-the-art, fully redundant Cloud-based IT system. We are experts in the leading technology used with Cloud Computing.

A private cloud, also called an ‘internal cloud’ or ‘corporate cloud’, resides within the company environment (firewall) and its access is restricted, usually to company employees or business partners.

The Gartner Institute has defined five key attributes for private Clouds:

  • • Offering resources (infrastructure and applications) as services
  • • Flexibility and scale that meet client demands
  • • Resource sharing among a large number of users
  • • Measurement and payment according to use of the service
  • • Use of Internet protocols and technologies to access cloud resources

Benefits of private cloud

The reasons for using a private cloud are cost reduction, enhancing service quality, and, more importantly, reducing the time it takes to deliver what users demand.

Cost savings are driven by standardisation or automation of services or IT computer resources. Standardisation and automation reduce operational costs and free up IT personnel to focus more on servicing customers than on activities with little or no added value, such as allocating disk space or configuring software.

It is absolutely crucial for the quality of cloud services delivered by IT to be superior to the current model.

Infrastructure as a Service

The most widely adopted private Cloud model currently is ‘Infrastructure as a Service’ (IaaS), which is a natural development of the virtualisation process that some companies are undergoing.

Consider a development team that needs a server for their project. In large companies, it takes at least 30 days to make a new physical resource available. With IaaS, rather than 30 or 40 days, that server becomes available within a few hours. How many additional projects could that same team deliver in a year?

What are the benefits of IaaS?

No wasted capacity

If extra capacity is required, it can be purchased as needed, rather than over-specifying hardware and storage in advance. To cope with future needs, extra capacity can be handed back and de-provisioned if no longer required.

No in-house maintenance

There is no hardware or environment maintenance to be considered in maintaining Cloud-based IT infrastructure. With hosted servers, the operating system may still need to be maintained.
